When a physician prescribes a controlled substance in OmniMD, the PDMP query runs from within the patient chart and the result displays on screen in seconds. Prescribers do not need to log into a separate state PDMP portal or maintain a separate PDMP account through OmniMD’s integration.

Prescriptions for non-controlled medications can be issued from any location on a mobile device. For controlled substances requiring EPCS, authentication can be completed via biometric (fingerprint on a mobile device) or SMS-based verification, depending on the authentication method the prescriber enrolled with during EPCS setup. For telehealth visits conducted through OmniMD’s integrated telehealth platform, e-prescriptions for Schedule III through Schedule V medications route through Surescripts in the same way as in-person prescriptions, under the DEA’s 2024 telemedicine prescribing guidelines. Schedule II medications continue to require an in-person prescribing encounter under current DEA regulations.
